The Independent Peer Review service – FAQ

Here are some answers to frequently asked questions on the IPR service:

  1. My customers wouldn't like me sending their stuff to a third party – Tell them about us. We will be happy to answer any questions they may have.
  2. What about confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements? – Everyone working for us has to agree to strict confidentiality and non-disclosure.
  3. What about tight deadlines? – Reviews do not take long. They are booked in advance and, once agreed, must take priority over other work. But quality requires time, so explain the benefits to your customer.
  4. I already have a friend who looks through my translations. Why should I pay you to do it? – Because an independent peer review is simply a better solution. For one thing, we find a reviewer who has time to do the review when you need it.
  5. How do I know the reviewer is any good? – You will be able to see this from the review. Besides, you decide what to accept and what to reject. And you can tell us if you think the review was useless.
  6. How do I know the reviewer (or the LSC) won't run off with my customer? – Our reviewers (and we) are bound by the same agreement on this as you are.
  7. What if I've agreed to review a translation which turns out to be hopeless? – If, in your view, the translation is really bad, you can refuse to review it. We will then send it to another reviewer for a second opinion.
  8. But can't people cheat? – Yes, they can. What they can't do, is get away with it.
