The Independent Peer Review service – FAQ on money

Here are some answers to frequently asked questions on the money side of the IPR service:

  1. Scientists don't have to pay for peer reviews, so why do we? – Because that wouldn't work for translations. Scientists often wait quite literally months to get their reviews, but most translators need feedback somewhat quicker!
  2. What is the administrative charge? – This is our charge for arranging a review. It is a fixed charge, the same for all reviews.
  3. Why is it a fixed charge? – Because we reckon the cost of arranging a review is more or less the same for all reviews.
  4. Why is there a per-word charge? – This is to cover the cost of the review itself. We pay this money to the reviewer.
  5. Why is it based on the source text? – Because we want you to order your reviews in good time – before you start translating.
  6. Why is it a fixed rate? – Because we want it to be the same whether you are paying for a review or being paid for one.
  7. Won't it cost a lot to send money over international borders? – You will have an account with us. We pay money into it when you have done a review and we take money out of it for reviews you order. You can withdraw your money any time.
  8. What about invoicing? – All amounts payable between us will have to be invoiced, so that the tax authorities don't get too upset.
